# Models and AI keys

> The API keys your agents think with: Claude, OpenAI, Gemini or OpenRouter.

Your agents think with **your own account** at an AI provider. What they use is paid there, directly, at the provider's prices.

## Adding a key

In **Models**, find the provider, paste its API key and tap **Test and save**. The key is tested before being saved and stored encrypted; afterwards only its ending shows («Key ending in …»).

| **OpenAI** | The GPT models |
| **Gemini** | Google's models |
| **OpenRouter** | Open models: DeepSeek, Kimi and Qwen |

Each provider has three tiers: **the most capable** (complex cases, several tools), **fast and capable** (most conversations) and **the cheapest** (simple questions and high volume). Each agent's model is picked on its **Model** tab: see [Agents](https://help.desk.min-ai.ar/en/setup/agents.md#model).

## A key's status

| Status | What to do |
| - | - |
| **Connected** | Nothing: it works. |
| **Key rejected** | Check it's complete and active, and tap **Change key**. |
| **No credit** | The key works, but the account has no credit. Top it up and tap **Test again**. |
| **Not answering** | The provider didn't answer properly. Try again in a while. |

> An agent without a working key **doesn't answer**: it passes all its conversations to the team's queue, with the reason (for example, «Queued: the Claude account has no balance»).

If the chosen model isn't enabled for your key, the console won't let you publish the agent with that model: enable it in the provider's account or pick another one.
